At Kalo Living, we work in close partnership with local authorities, social workers, and health professionals to deliver high-quality, therapeutic residential care for children and young people aged 7–17.
We understand the pressures faced by placement teams the demand for safe, stable homes that can respond quickly while maintaining exceptional standards of care.

Our Offer
Kalo Living provides both short stay and long term residential placements, offering tailored support for children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and complex social or family needs.
Our current provision includes:
- Riviera Retreat (Torquay): 10 bed short stay service for emergency, respite, and assessment placements.
- Marston Villa (Torquay): 6-bed mixed provision (4 long-term + 2 short-stay) designed for stability, recovery, and transition.
Each home operates within a trauma-informed, therapeutic model focused on stability, growth, and measurable outcomes.
We provide placements for children who:
- Have experienced multiple placement breakdowns or instability.
- Present with attachment-related or emotional regulation difficulties.
- Are in crisis or need short-term support while plans are reassessed.
- Require 1:1 or enhanced staffing for complex needs.
- Are preparing to transition from residential care back into family or foster settings.

All placements are underpinned by individualised care plans, created
collaboratively with placing authorities and reviewed regularly.
Our Staffing Model
Our staffing structure exceeds minimum requirements, ensuring every child receives consistent, attentive, and therapeutic care.
Typical ratios:
- 1:1 staffing for all short stay placements.
- 1:1 or 2:1 support for children with complex needs.
- Dedicated sleep-in or waking night staff to ensure 24-hour coverage.
- On-call management support from senior leadership.
Every home has:
- A Registered Manager responsible for day to day leadership and compliance.
- A Deputy Manager providing operational oversight and staff supervision.
- Seniors and Residential Support Workers trained in trauma-informed care.
- Access to clinical supervision and reflective practice from Kalo Living’s professional network.

Standards
All staff receive:
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or working towards)
- Safeguarding and Child Protection
- Trauma and Attachment Training
- Positive Behaviour Support and De-escalation
- Emergency First Aid
- Health & Safety, Fire, and Food Safety
Senior staff and managers undertake additional leadership, clinical, and reflective supervision training.
This ensures every team member understands both regulation and relationship, balancing compliance with compassion.
Governance and
Quality Assurance
Kalo Living operates with a robust governance and compliance framework aligned with Ofsted’s Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
This includes:
- Regulation 44: Independent monthly monitoring visits by a qualified external professional.
- Regulation 45: Quarterly manager’s reports analysing quality, outcomes, and improvement actions.
- Comprehensive policies covering safeguarding, health & safety, equality, and incident management.
- Quarterly audits covering staff training, medication, maintenance, and risk management.
- Fire safety audits and annual contractor servicing for all essential systems.
All reports and action plans are shared transparently with Ofsted and local authority partners.
Our Outcomes
Framework
We measure impact through a structured Outcomes and Progress Review Framework, focusing on:

Outcomes are tracked through monthly keywork reviews, internal audits, and external evaluation.
Referral Process
To make a referral:
- Contact our placement team by email or phone to check availability.
- Submit a referral form and relevant background documentation (LAC forms, care plan, risk assessment, chronology).
- A matching assessment will be completed by our management team within 24 hours.
- A decision and proposed transition plan will be shared promptly with the placing authority.
- Once agreed, a placement planning meeting will be held before or on admission.
We aim to make referrals smooth, transparent, and focused on the best possible match for the child.
